Introduction to HTML
Introduction to HTML – HTML language was first created in 1995 by Eric Mayer. While much of this information is still relevant, it is important to remember that it was written for HTML 2.0.
What is an HTML file ?
An HTML file is defined by w3schools.com as
- HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language
- An HTML file is a text file containing small markup tags
- The markup tags tell the Web browser how to display the page
- An HTML file must have an htm or html file extension
- An HTML file can be created using a simple text editor
An HTML file starts with the <html> tag and ends with </html>. In a HTML file you can define the head tags of your HTML page between the <head> </head> tags.
Tags that you can use in the head of your HTML page
- Title tag
- Description meta tag
- Keywords meta tag
These are not the only tags you can use in head tag of the HTML page, but we will speak about them further. Apart the head of the HTML file we have the body of the HTML page, in the body part of your HTML file will be included the text that will be visible within the browser. Now lets take a look how our HTML files code would look like by using the above described tags
<title>My HTML Page</title>
<meta name=”description” content=”Description for My HTML Page”>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”my, html, page”>
Now, we know how to create a HTML page and we know how the HTML file should look like. Later on we will learn something more about HTML so come back at xHTML Coding to learn more about HTML with the HTML Tutorial we will write.
